before making important decisions that would effect all types of cultures, for example a e-commerce website, you must consider every type of culture in your solution. In that instance, you would want to make your website easily accessible by different cultures, backgrounds, religions, etc.I have selected a picture of Brett Favre to represent pop culture sports and pop culture television. To a great number of people, not only in the United States, but world-wide, sports have been a great part of there life. To others, they may not like to watch football, but Brett Favre has been playing for the Green Bay Packer's for 16 years, since season of 1992, and is well known as one of the best QBs in sports history. Even if you don't know a single thing about how football is played, most people still know who Brett Favre is. He would be considered a pop cultural sports prodigy.

You have some good points. You definately need to take into consideration people backrounds in any business activities or fundamentals. The only thing I might disagree on is not everyone will know a popular person whether its a sports icon or a movie star. Whether they like a certain sport or movies. I like football but don't know every player even though they might be popular is alot of areas of the world.
I agree with Wayne's comments in some aspects, but wanted to add to his comment. Although you may not know everything, or even care to know everything that is or was once popular, based on your own preferences, in a crowd you will reminded in an almost OMG!!- I can't believe you don't know ________(fill in the blank)...where have you been?. It is slightly important to stay somewhat current...or you could be left out socially!
